Choosing a new friend for the family

Have you decided to expand the family ? In this article we want to give you some tips so that you can choose the pet that is right for you. Before making such an important decision, you need to think through a few issues to make your new friend feel perfectly comfortable in their new home.

Elements to consider

Space

  •  The space in which you live, and which you will share with your new friend, is an important element that you must think about before choosing the type of pet. You need to think that it is your responsibility to guarantee your new friend a peaceful and comfortable life.   Dogs are not all the same, there are some subjects and some breeds that have more energy and that need to live large spaces,  such as in a house with a garden or a courtyard.
  • Living in a 60 square meter house is not as comfortable as living in a cottage and it is even less so if you share the space with an animal.  If you have thought of adopting a dog, such as a greyhound or a German shepherd, and you have little space, you must think about it otherwise you risk that your dog will get stressed because he feels locked up.
  • On the other hand, your home will also have to adapt to the newcomer or at least you will have to take safety measures so that your friend is not the victim of some accident. Always remember to close all doors and windows.

Time

  •  The time factor is also crucial. You need to think about how much time you can devote to your new friend. If you are away from home all day, or if you have to travel often, it is better not to adopt a dog or a cat as they are very dependent on the owner.
  • You can catch a fish, a canary or a turtle. They are species that do not require excessive attention and above all you do not have to take them out at least twice a day, like dogs.
  • For this, think carefully about how much free time you have and make the right choice, for your well-being and that of your new friend. And don’t forget: if you decide to adopt a pet, you must be responsible owners.

Tastes

  •  It is true everyone has their own tastes, however, we could give you some tips that will help you make the best choice. For example, if  you love outdoor sports and have time to devote to these activities, adopting a dog could be a great idea.
  • If, on the other hand, you like to stay indoors, relax in your favorite chair, or if you can work from home, then a cat can give you the company you are looking for. Felines love to sleep for many hours, are friendly and love to receive the attention of their owner.
  • Another idea could be to catch a fish or a turtle,  especially if you are prone to stress. After a nervous day at work, there is nothing better than arriving home, sitting on the sofa and observing the life of these animals.

    A new friend?

Another point to think about is how many and which animals will live in the house. Having three dogs is not the same as adopting a cat or a turtle. In the first case, at least at the beginning, coexistence will not be easy. While in the second, the relationship between the two species will be much quieter.

And if it’s about dogs …

If you are thinking of adopting a dog and you haven’t made up your mind yet, we want to share some thoughts with you:

    • If you want a large dog, you must be aware that the big dog will share the space with you. If you live in a small apartment, perhaps choose small and quiet breeds such as the dachshund or the poodle. While these dogs have personalities, they adapt perfectly to small spaces.
    • And finally, don’t forget that mixed-breed dogs are always the best pets. Don’t buy! Adopt an abandoned dog and finally give him the family and life he deserves.
