Mestizos: Find Out Why These Dogs Are Unique

Mestizos: Find out why these dogs are unique

Does your four-legged friend have a pedigree or is he one of the many adorable mestizos that populate the canine universe? Known with more or less derogatory names, these dogs combine several characteristics that are worth knowing. Below we tell you why mestizos are unique.

What defines mixed breed dogs?

First of all, let’s start with the exact definition of a mixed breed dog. A mixed breed dog is one who does not belong to any of the breeds recognized by canine breeding organizations. It is, in fact, the result of an unselected mate.

According to this definition, therefore, a dog is considered mixed when, for example:

  • His ancestry is unknown.
  • It combines the characteristics of two or more breeds.
  • Descended from wild or stray animals.

Ultimately, they are dogs born out of planned intervention that exercise humans in the development of certain dog breeds.

Why should a mixed breed be adopted?

Without being opposed to dogs with pedigree, if you decide to have a pet, we at My Animals  always advise you to opt for adoption.

Kennels in Italy and around the world are full of animals looking for a human family that loves them. Animals looking for an opportunity to have a worthy life.

And although purebred dogs can also be found in kennels, most of these animals are stray or mestizo.

However, beyond the decision to adopt a mestizo because it has been abandoned, it is necessary to know that these animals have some characteristics that make them unique, and certainly deserving to be welcomed by a human family that takes care of them and loves them.

Dogs without pedigree, unique animals

The great advantage presented by mestizo dogs is that it was not man, but nature that determined their conditions. Not belonging to any specific race, they have a genetic heritage of natural selection which – in biological terms – in general makes them more suitable and adaptable to the environment.

This genetic diversity results in greater health, strength and longevity than purebred dogs. Mestizos, therefore, get less ill and, moreover, usually do not develop the “typical” ailments of certain rockets, which can lead to premature death or a poor quality of life during old age.

Original animals with lots of love to give

This particular condition of mixed breed dogs of having better genes is known as “hybrid vigor”. It arises when the crossbred puppy is superior, genetically, to its parents. Frequent crosses, in fact, allow to eliminate the unwanted characteristics of the parents. Therefore, those that make the animal more resistant to diseases and adverse environmental conditions prevail.

Furthermore, a half-caste presents a very original personal “design” which, in turn, makes it unique. Nothing to do with the similarity of purebred dogs.

In addition to biological issues, then, a mestizo will certainly stand out because it is a grateful animal for the opportunity given to him by the family that adopted him. He will show it with all his affection and, for sure, he will become the great guardian of his new home.

It can also be said that  they are extremely intelligent animals. They learn everything that is taught to them very quickly. They are also often very fond of canine sports.

Following what has been said, therefore, if you are thinking of welcoming a dog into your family, seriously consider the possibility of adopting a beautiful unique and original mixed breed.
