Pygmy marmoset

A monkey small enough to fit in one hand. This is the reason why it is considered the smallest primate in the world. It lives in the Amazon rainforest, among the trees of Colombia, Ecuador, Brazil and Peru. It can measure up to 35 centimeters and the weight, as an adult, is around 100 grams.

Brookesia chameleon

It is the size of a pin and is certainly the smallest reptile in the world. It measures less than an inch but, despite the mini size, behaves like its larger chameleon relatives. He too has the ability to adapt the color of the skin with respect to the habitat, thus defending himself from predators.

The Philippine tarsier

Until a few years ago, it was referred to as the smallest monkey in the world. Today, having joined the primate family  , it has an uncertain location. It is one of the cutest and weirdest animals  in the world, due to its two huge, really funny eyes. It has a very powerful night sight and measures 3 to 6 inches.

Bumblebee bat

This tiny bat is native to Asia, mainly living in Thailand and Burma. It weighs 2 grams and can measure up to 3 centimeters.

Paedocypris carp

It is the smallest fish in the world, among the species known to man so far. The most developed adult specimen reaches just 8 millimeters. It was discovered in 2006 in the marshes of Sumatra, an island of Indonesia. Its peculiarity is the complete transparency of the skin. Due to the destruction of its natural habitat, it is an animal in danger of extinction.

Snake Flea

Its scientific name is  Leptotyphlops carlae and it is the smallest snake in the world. It can measure up to 6 centimeters and no more. It comes from the island of Barbados, feeds on larvae and is the width of a woolen thread.

Bee hummingbird

As you well know, the hummingbird is the smallest bird in the world. But not only that: a new specimen of this species has just been discovered in Cuba. More like an insect than a bird, the bee hummingbird is able to flap its wings 80 times per second. Its eggs are smaller than a contact lens.

Hippocampus denise

This tiny seahorse lives in the waters of the Pacific Ocean. Its total length, from the head to the end of the tail, is 16 millimeters. It is a great swimmer and can live up to 90 meters deep.

Frog Monte Iberia eleuth

This animal is also native to Cuba, measuring just 8.5 mm and very soon it will be declared as the smallest frog in the world.

Lemur Rat
